Nicole's Story

I always heard adults telling me to abstain from any sexual activity until marriage because of unplanned pregnancy or STD’s. However, I choose to believe those things would never happen to me and engaged in sexual intercourse. I knew I was lucky that I didn’t contract an STD, but I never thought that I would become a teen mom, a real life statistic at the age of fourteen. Being a teen and raising a child is one of the hardest obstacles I have ever faced. In less than one day, I went from having responsibilities such as school and house chores to taking care of someone's every want and need. Although I still have friends, I don’t get to hang out with them like I used to. My life has completely changed since I had a child. Some change was for good and some for bad. Even though I have a child at a young age, I refuse to become another ordinary statistic. Ever since my experience, I have tried to inspire other teens to be abstinent even if they have engaged in sexual activity before. If I could change one thing about our world, I would change the fact that teens are in a hurry to act in adult ways and fail to see that if they slow down the rewards will be so much better. I can truly say that from my experience I have learned that a few minutes of sexual activity can lead to a whole lifetime of changes, and abstinence is the only way.

Kelsey’s Story (based on an actual e-mail)

Hello,

My name is Kelsey. I’m 15 and a sophomore. When your program comes to high schools, many teens do not really listen. Most of them are thinking, “oh yea, we’ve heard this before”. What if you had someone who had actually been there and experienced it talk to them? Maybe then they’d listen more.

I’m 8 months pregnant and giving the baby up for adoption. I’d like to talk to teens about being pregnant, choices and the experience. I want to help prevent teen pregnancy.
